On 18 November 2024, Wasia Project took to the stage at SWX in Bristol, delivering a performance that was equal parts heartfelt and energetic. The sibling duo, Olivia Hardy and William Gao, showed exactly why they’ve been gaining so much attention, with a set that blended their unique alt-pop and jazzy sounds beautifully.

The setlist was a treat for fans, featuring songs from both their EPs, ‘how can i pretend?’ and ‘Isotope’, including fan favourite ‘ur so pretty’ which had the crowd blissfully swaying along. Their cover of Smooth Operator was a standout moment, putting their jazz influences on full display. They effortlessly controlled the atmosphere, shifting between upbeat tracks that had everyone jumping and slower, emotional songs that drew the audience in.

Olivia’s vocals were nothing short of stunning, carrying both power and emotion. She made sure to interact with the crowd, encouraging fans and keeping the energy alive throughout the night. William brought a calm, steady presence, and his skills on the keyboard were a perfect match for Olivia’s dynamic performance. Together they created a warm and inviting vibe on stage.

One of the most interesting aspects of the show was the live band. With a saxophone and trombone in the mix, the arrangements felt fresh and full of character. These instruments added a jazzy undertone and a unique layer to the overall sound.

Towards the end of the night Olivia rallied the crowd to crouch down and then leap up together. The room practically exploded with energy, creating an unforgettable moment of connection between the band and their fans.

If you haven’t seen Wasia Project live yet, I can’t recommend them enough. Their music has such a unique blend of styles, and Olivia’s voice is even more impressive in person. This was a night full of passion, incredible musicianship, and moments that will stick with you long after the show ends.
